Wizard Will: The Wonder Worker - Book Review

Sometimes, we come across the books which are not immensely popular and it makes you feel hesitant to give that book a try. And then you end up not reading the book. The end result? You miss out on the opportunity to read one gem of a book! Wizard Will: The Wonder Worker is one such book. I had downloaded it many months ago but never decided to read.

One fine day, while browsing through my collection of books in Kindle, I stumbled upon this book. I read the first few lines & I was totally mesmerised. I was literally coerced into the book. Even though I only read the first chapter that day, I finished the whole book in just 2 days!

Wizard Will: The Wonder Worker is one of the most cohesive novels I have ever read. Its story is quite gripping & the plots are so well interwoven. There is not a single dull in the whole book. It is the kind of book that keeps you glued from start to end. It makes you curious about what is going to happen in the next chapter.

About the book.

Wizard Will: The Wonder Worker is a novel written by American author Prentiss Ingraham. Set around 19th century America, the novel describes an emotional & adventure-filled journey of a young boy Will. There is suspense, there is action, there is positivity & there is a good, strong message. There is a tale of sacrifices & the fruits of being kind and honest.

About the Author.

Prentiss Ingraham was a colonel in US Confederate Army and was a prolific fiction writer. He has written hundreds of stories (he claimed to have written 600 novels) in his lifetime & is best known for his Buffalo Bill series.

Plot Introduction.

Will is the central character of the novel. He is into his adolescence & supports his family (mother Ruby & a younger sister Pearl) by doing odd jobs like polishing shoes, sending telegrams & other similar errands. His mother also sells her paintings to make ends meet.

Miss Ruby had left her husband Schuyler Cluett because he was a drunkard & he married her for her beauty only. She was in love with a young village farmer Kent Lomax who had also saved the life of Schuyler. But Schuyler lures her into his charm & they elope.

While living their tough life, a wanted criminal enters her house and demands money. She agrees but hesitates to hand over her engagement ring to him. He threatens her but Will attacks him from behind & send his sister Pearl to call the police. An honest & good-hearted Sergeant Daly develops the liking for Will for his courage & brave attitude and also assures him of all the help that he can provide. He also offers them the prize money for capturing the criminal but Miss Ruby politely refuses to accept the money.

Will is kidnapped by a gang because they have a special plan with Will holding the key.

What happens to Will? Will Kent avenge his loss? What happens to Ruby & her family? How she manages to go through the hardships? And what does Will end up with? Read the novel for all your answers :-)

Book Review - Ivanhoe

Ivanhoe - Novel by Sir Walter Scott I have decided on this novel to be the first post on my blog. Why? You'd ask! Well, because I owned a physical copy of Ivanhoe when I was a kid & I loved it totally. It was my first ever encounter with a novel which had a European background. That book was in my mother tongue i.e. Hindi & while it was not the best translation, I still enjoyed reading it as a kid. And I still have this copy with me! Fast forward a few years & I was gifted a Kindle reader. Without involving too many personal details, all I will say is that this Kindle device is my most prized possession & I have fallen in love with reading even more because of it. So, I started searching for free books on Project Guttenburg & I came across Ivanhoe . I was thrilled!! The kid inside me got really excited & I downloaded the book straightaway :-) Who doesn't like free stuff, after all! My childhood memories were refreshed. It has been around 18
